Employee Spotlight: Katie Riker, Senior Site Coordinator

We’re spotlighting the most important part of our work here at 1nHealth—our team. These are the folks who bring the energy, the ideas, and the spark to everything we do.

Up today: Katie Riker, our Senior Site Coordinator—who who keeps our sites running smoothly and patients feeling cared for from first visit to last.

Discover the most fulfilling aspect of Katie’s job, what might surprise you about her day-to-day, and much more.

What's your current role at 1nHealth?

As Senior Site Coordinator at 1nHealth, I serve as the link between our internal team, research sites, and sponsors, CROs, and study teams, making sure communication is clear and recruitment runs smoothly.

One of the best parts of my job is that it blends both my love of data and my passion for people. I wear multiple hats: part data analyst, part site advocate. This means I’m constantly reviewing metrics to monitor performance and uncover insights, while also working directly with site staff to provide personalized support and guidance.

It’s a role that allows me to connect on a human level while staying grounded in the numbers that drive our decisions. At the core, my goal is to ensure that every site we work with feels empowered, equipped, and confident. Whether it’s providing guidance on recommended best practices, assisting with data entry, or simply being a sounding board, I’m here to make sure our sites have what they need to succeed. After all, when sites thrive, enrollment goals are met, and patients ultimately benefit.

If someone shadowed you for a day, what would surprise them most about your job?

One of the things that might surprise people about my job is just how invested our department is in receiving honest, unfiltered feedback from the sites and teams we support. We genuinely want to know what’s working and what isn’t.

Whether it’s a logistical hiccup, a resource that’s falling short, or a small tweak that could make a site’s day run smoother, that feedback helps us improve how we support our partners. We’re not afraid of hearing the tough stuff, and if anything, we thrive on it.

What might be even more surprising is how quickly we act once we hear that feedback. Our team moves fast. As soon as a concern is raised or a barrier identified, we shift into problem-solving mode. We’re proactive, responsive, and most importantly deeply committed to making things better, not just for the sake of a successful study, but because we know there’s a real person on the other end of every challenge.

It’s that mix of empathy and action that makes this role so dynamic and so rewarding.

What’s a moment in your role that gives you a “this is why I do this” feeling?

Any time that I receive positive feedback from sites that I support and hear how we have helped them, I feel the strongest sense of pride.

One time on a recruitment roundtable, a sponsor asked sites to respond anonymously with what has worked for them with recruitment and the first response was “We love Katie and 1nHealth.” I had to turn my camera off and wipe tears after that one.

How do you relax and re-energize outside of work?

To keep cabin fever at bay after working inside at a computer, I spend most of my free time outside gardening, hiking, and camping. I feel blessed to be at a company that truly values taking time for yourself and balancing work and life.

I’m also lucky enough to live in the Northeast with a full spread of seasons, and I’m already counting down to the next ski season!

What’s the most satisfying problem you’ve gotten to solve lately?

I recently had the pleasure of revamping our onboarding process for sites. Rather than requiring live trainings for each site, the new method is more site-focused and self-guided.

This allows us to connect with sites earlier on a deeper level, hear their needs sooner, and offer training on a much more flexible schedule which has significantly reduced burdens and improved relationships before campaigns begin.

What’s something you’ve learned at 1nHealth that you think everyone should know—whether they work here or not?

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you will be the most successful in a role that you are passionate about. To be truly happy in your role, you should reflect on what excites you and how you can take that excitement and turn it into tangible actionable projects.
