From Dan’s Desk

AI is not the ‘what’.

It is simply the ‘how’.

Sponsors are tired of hearing what powers the work. They want to know what the work actually delivers.

I spent last week at DIA, and I opened every conversation the same way. How are you enjoying the conference? A half dozen sponsors gave me a near identical answer, and none of it was about the science. “If someone says AI enabled one more time, I am going to…”That is worth sitting with. These are not people who distrust technology. These are people worn down by a label that has been asked to carry weight it was never meant to carry.

Treat AI like server hosting

Here is the frame I keep coming back to. Treat AI the way you treat your server hosting. Azure, Amazon, Google, all of them are fine choices. But none of us has ever won a sponsor by announcing where our servers live. The questions that decide the work are simpler than that. What does the system do, and where does the leverage come from.

AI sits in the same category. It is infrastructure. It is the route, not the reason.

The “there” is the only thing that counts

AI is not the thing. It is how we get there. And the there has never changed. Patients reached faster. Sites that feel carried rather than burdened. Sponsors who reach the timeline they were promised instead of the one they were warned about. When the conversation starts with the form of transit, the outcome gets lost. When it starts with the outcome, the technology can finally do its job in the background, which is exactly where good infrastructure belongs.

Lead with the destination

So this is my plea to the industry. Lead with the destination, not the vehicle. Results are the rubric every one of us is graded against, sponsors and partners alike. Let us talk about the there.
